ADESH GUPTA
CHAIRMAN, LIBERTY GROUP
Adesh is the middle son of Late Shri Purushottam Das Gupta, a visionary legend and Founder of Liberty Group besides being a renowned and respected industrialist.
Born into a family of freedom fighters, he dedicated his life towards footwear industry and the welfare of the needy. Adesh grew up in Karnal, Haryana with a known sense of social consciousness and national pride and was tutored by his father in the early stages of joining Liberty. He is today seen as a leader of the Footwear Industry and has held key positions in business forums like CII, CFLA, FDDI & Skill Council to name a few. He is usually chosen as the industry representative at all Central and State Government forums, overseas visits and as a spokesperson for the industry.
EDUCATION & CAREER
Adesh Kumar Gupta is a Mechanical Engineering graduate. He believes that innovation is the route towards writing success stories. Soon after his graduation in 1983 he pioneered P.U. Technology for footwear in India, walked the technology bastions and the developing and mature markets around the world to absorb the best for the Liberty Group. He toured the interiors of India to update himself on trends and capabilities in the footwear industry. At Liberty he has maintained the cutting edge in best practices for Liberty in Manufacturing, Design and development, Retailing, OE relationships & Financial Management besides pioneered branded exports and setting up wholesale and retail channels under Liberty umbrella. He is currently the CEO of Liberty Shoes besides chairing many initiatives & quasi Government bodies that look after the welfare of the footwear industry.
Adesh also spearheads Liberty Lifestyle CEO- the luxury business of fine perfumery, which is again an innovative step to introduce luxury perfumes for India and overseas consumers.
He has also set up an eco system of wholesale e-commerce for India and Overseas market at Liberty.
PERSONAL
Born on 27th June, 1960 in Karnal, Adesh is married to Punam and they are blessed with 3 daughters. Adesh has a liking for music and hums many Hindi Film Songs or Gazals or Bhajans that he has eruditely mastered under a renowned Guru. He also finds time to indulge in Yoga for self care and can be seen teeing off at a green on many an odd weekend.
PHILANTHROPY
Adesh is known for his business ethics and philanthropic bent. He is actively involved in a number of social organizations and takes a keen interest in the Corporate Social Responsibilities of his company. Like adopting a village in Haryana to uplift the life of the people in that geography, like providing subsistence to many NGO’s, like being on the management of a Charitable Hospital in Karnal, like supporting many initiatives that work for the welfare of the Girl Child. Adesh Gupta
With a specialization in Polyurethane Technology in Footwear, he pioneered the application at Liberty in 1983 which catapulted the brand to a position of leadership in the domestic market. To meet the burgeoning global industrial footwear requirements Adesh has carved out a road map for Liberty’s success and the brand is aggressively marketed in the international markets.
During 2005-2008, he headed the Footwear Design and Development Institute as Chairman under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. Adesh Gupta has also acted as Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (Northern Region). He is also the Chairman of Liberty Infotech and Sunfest Infratech & Power Ltd. He heads a number of Professional as well as Govt. Bodies related to Footwear Industry in various capacities.
